CNC Operator

The job purpose of the CNC operator is to work with computer numeric controlled (CNC) heavy machinery from setup to operation to produce parts and tools from metal, plastic or other materials. Computer numeric controlled equipment is precision machinery that cuts, grinds, or drills into the material. CNC machinists make adjustments to the machine to control speed, material feed and path of the cut, as well as make sure the machines are set up properly, working well, and producing quality product. 

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

Project Manager (Structural)

We are seeking a qualified candidate who can become part of our team as a Project Manager. The Project Manager is responsible for scheduling and estimating projects, and overseeing and coordinating the projects until completion. The Project Manager will be primarily involved with projects involving the supply and/or installation of structural steel or miscellaneous metals.

Primary responsibilities of this position:

  • Continually review bid documents, communicate with customers, and conduct research in order to develop a full understanding of potential and ongoing projects.
  • Estimate projects and prepare complete and comprehensive tenders that highlight the capabilities of Sperling Industries Ltd.
  • Obtain outsourced pricing for any materials or services which are not to be self-performed.
  • Schedule projects and coordinate in house personnel as well as subcontractors and equipment.
  • Work closely with detailers in preparing shop drawings and CNC files required for processing.
  • Review any quality issues or fabrication errors and document them in the form of NCR’s to prevent them from reoccurring on later projects.
  • Monitor and track project costs and anticipated margins throughout stages of construction.
  • Prepare change orders and billing schedules as required
  • Perform site visits as required to review projects first hand

Qualified applicants should have the following education, experience, or skills:

  • Understanding of available types, sizes, and properties of materials in order to achieve high material utilization, economy, and performance
  • Understanding of field installation equipment, techniques, and constraints
  • Understanding of the engineering process and applicability, as well as creative problem solving
  • CAD skills are an asset
  • Developing working relationships and working with customers professionally and responsibly
  • Understanding of fabrication methodologies
  • Self-motivation
  • Mechanical aptitude

Previous experience of applicants in the following areas would be an asset:

Senior Designer

We are seeking a qualified candidate who can become part of our team as a Senior Designer. The Senior Designer is responsible for understanding the needs and requirements of the customer and designing solutions to fulfill their needs, while adhering to customer budgets, applicable codes, standards, and other restrictions. 

Primary responsibilities of this position:

  • Design and detail product solutions for shop productions or field installations using 3D CAD Software
  • Communicate design in the format of shop drawings, CNC files, and other formats
  • Communicate with Project Managers, customers, engineers, and other parties to establish project requirements
  • Prepare project estimates and quotations
  • Maintain project budgets and schedules

 

Qualified applicants should have the following education, experience, or skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering and/or design
  • Previous experience is an asset in any of these areas:
    • Structural steel support systems
    • Mechanical conveyance systems (commodity handling)
    • Piping systems
    • Aspiration/ductwork systems
    • Pneumatic conveyance systems
    • Bins, hoppers, tanks, vessels, and other storage devices
    • Stands, access platforms

Mobile Crane Operator

The Mobile Crane Operator position is a permanent, full time job that will start immediately. Candidate's salary varies depending on experience, qualifications, and abilities.

Job Duties:

          Operate various mobile cranes at many different locations

          Operate hydraulic truckcranes/roughterrains- to 90 ton capacities

          Perform some routine maintenance on cranes

          Other duties as required

Requirements:

          Have a Mobile Crane Operator Trade Certification (journeyman status, preferably with Red Seal)

          Class 1 License is an asset

          Strong written and communication skills

          Ability to work well independently as well as with a variety of co-workers and customers


Journeyman Diesel Engine Mechanic

The Journeyman Diesel Engine Mechanic position is a permanent, full time job that will start immediately. Candidate’s salary varies depending on experience, qualifications, and abilities. 

Job Duties:

                Repair, maintain, overhaul, and service equipment such as diesel trucks, cranes, aerial lifts etc.

                Work with hydraulic and electrical systems

                 Record maintenance in log books and comply with SIL’s Safety Program

                Other duties as required

Requirements:

                Be a certified Journeyman Diesel Engine Mechanic with 3 years of experience in the industry

                Must have own transportation and a valid driver’s license

                Must have experience working with cranes, trucks, aerial lifts, and a variety of equipment

                Must be physically and mentally fit to satisfy the demands of the job

                Fluent in written and oral English

                Ability to work well independently as well as with a variety of co-workers

                Computer experience with email, internet and MS Office applications would be an asset


 Field Labourers

The Field Labourers positions are permanent, full time jobs that will start immediately. Candidate’s salary varies depending on experience, qualifications, and abilities. 

Job Duties:

          Miscellaneous metal/iron working duties

          Cutting, assembling and dismantling of agricultural and other heavy equipment

          Other general labour duties as instructed by the field or shop foreman

Requirements:

          Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English

          Must be hard-working and reliable

          Must be able to work alone as well as with a variety of co-workers

          Must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of the job

          Class 1 or 3 driver’s licence would be considered an asset

          Valid CWB welding tickets would be considered an asset

          Candidate must be safety conscious and willingly follow safety policies and procedures


Industrial Painter

The Industrial Painter position is a permanent, full time job that will start immediately. Candidate’s salary varies depending on experience, qualifications, and abilities. 

Job Duties:

                Must have the ability to apply protective coatings via spray application methods

                Must have the ability to manage the paint facility and schedule jobs

                Must work well with co-workers

Must demonstrate an understanding of quality control practices including measuring surface profiles, adhesion, coating thickness, and ambient environmental conditions. 

The candidate must be able to read, write and speak English.  NACE inspection certification is an asset
